Help ensure that your students are cyber safe and able to navigate effectively in the 21st Century online landscape by designating a Cyber Safety Specialist at your school. Your designee is invited to register at http://pd.nycoit.org for a four-hour Cyber Safety class offered by the Office of Instructional Technology (OIT) in August, and schools are encouraged to register for additional professional development offered by the NYC DOE on ProTraxx http://pd.nycoit.org throughout the year. Upon completion of this training, the Cybersafety Specialist will be able to turnkey training for students, teachers and/or parents.
This professional development is being offered to schools as part of a joint effort between the New York City’s Mayor’s Office in conjunction with the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Instructional Technology (OIT), Office of Parent Engagement (OPE), and School Library Services (SLS) to help students, parents, and teachers engage in safe, appropriate, and acceptable use of the Internet. To do this The New York City Department of Education has partnered with i-Safe http://isafe.org, the worldwide leader in Internet safety education, to prepare more than 100 librarians, instructional technology specialists, and parent support officers across New York City to deliver training to schools.
If you are interested in providing Cyber Safety training at your school, we encourage you to have your Cyber Safety Specialist contact the following individuals to receive a list of certified Cyber Safety trainers who you may hire (note: schools are responsible for reimbursing trainers who come to your school or district) to provide Cyber Safety professional development to teachers and/or parents at your school.
